District 11 Tournament @ Fort Frye High School

Cambridge Post 84 13, Dresden Post 399 7

(BEVERLY) — Defense was in short-supply Wednesday at the District 11 Winners Bracket Championship at Fort Frye High School.

Cambridge and Dresden fought back-and-forth, before Post 84 pulled ahead late to pick up the 13-6 win.

Cambridge moves onto the District Championship Saturday.  Dresden falls to the Losers Bracket, where it will face either Beverly/Lowell or St. Clairsville Friday for the right to battle Cambridge.

Only two batters were retired before the first runs scored, and then the flood gates opened.

Cambridge came strong out of the gate.  A double by Jimmy Antalis put runners on second and third, before Evan Hayes cleared them with a single.

Dresden was right there to respond in the second inning, turning a 2-0 deficit in a 4-2 lead.  A Brian Lefever sacrifice fly scored Post 399’s first run in Jason Mahon.

Tri-Valley’s Matt West followed that up with his second home run in as many games.  His two-run blast, the same he hit in Dresden’s win over St. Clairsville in the previous round, plated Nick Doorman.  Brock Welker reached on an error that allowed Alex Edwards to score.

Cambridge cut Dresden’s advantage to one in the top of the third.  That margin, however, was short-lived.

Next Dresden at-bat, Tri-Valley’s Daniel Sensabaugh blasted a two-out solo home run to right field.

The fourth and sixth innings were defining for Cambridge.

Post 84 plated five runs in the fourth, two more in the sixth, essentially clinching the victory.
