(LANCASTER) – Coshocton and Beverly/Lowell both fell victim in the second day of action at the American Legion State Tournament. As a result, both Post 65 and Post 750/389 are eliminated from the competition.
The District 11 Champion Beverly/Lowell fell behind 9-0 against Worthington, before finally striking through with two in the seventh. It proved to be too little, too late for the 2006 State champ.
Coshocton started much stronger in their game. An RBI-double from River View’s Michael Adams put the Cherokees in front 1-0. But that lead was short-lived.
Their opponents from just outside of Cincinnati scored three runs in the second and fourth innings and exploded for seven runs in the seventh inning. In all, 12 Harrison batters came to the plate in the frame.
Coshocton, on the other hand, managed only six total hits, while committing three errors in the loss. The Cherokees finish with a record of 22-25, and just their second trip to the State Tournament in team history.
In other tournament news, Utica responded from an absolute drubbing against Napoleon, 18-2, to earn two victories in the losers bracket. A 6-2 win over Lima and 15-3 smashing of Worthington knocks both teams out of the tournament.
Utica takes on Circleville Wednesday, 10 am at Beavers Field in the Losers Bracket. Circleville fell for the first time on Tuesday, 18-1, to Sandusky.
