The annual Stars and Stripes on the River event at Zane’s Landing Park was at an all time high this afternoon.

Families stretching from Zanesville to Newark came out to enjoy the day. Newark Resident, Ryan Armstrong began coming to the event when he was about 12 years-old, and continues to come each year with his three brothers and step-dad. He said, it’s a chance to spend time together.

"He kind of brought us together as a family a lot," explained Armstrong. "I’m from one of those families, like he always thought it was important to sit down at the dinner table and have dinner together and he always thought it was important to do things like this, to keep the family together and realize what really is important in life."

Another local family who understands the importance of family is Zanesville resident, Brooke Best. Best grew up in Zanesville and brings her children to Stars and Stripes each year. This year her three daughters expressed their patriotism by wearing home-made red, white, and blue too-toos. Best said, the day is easy on her wallet and fun for the girls.

‘It’s a great fun family activity," said Best. "And it doesn’t cost a lot either."

The festivities at Zane’s Landing began Sunday afternoon and continue through Monday evening. The day is sponsored by the Zanesville Jaycee’s.
