Muscular Dystrophy is what causes weakness and loss of muscle tissue that grows worse overtime.
To help fight the disease Zanesville Firefighters will volunteer their time to collect spare change or dollar bills in order to "Fill the Boot." No gift is too small.
"We see people reach in and pull out their last ten cents and apologize for it because that’s all they had," said Gale Law the MD Chair for Local 88. "We take whatever anyone wants to put in the boot and we love it when the boot gets heavy."
Law said the International Association of Firefighters has raised more money than any other organization for the MDA and Local 88 has been in the top ten of fundraisers in the state.
"I got this from my wife. She says she can’t cure cancer so she does other things. Well, I can’t cure muscular dystrophy so I’m doing what I can do to help with the cause," explained Law.
Firefighters will be at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Bell Street on Friday July 29 from 10-4pm. They’ll be out again August 12 at Zane and Underwood. They’re hoping to raise $15,000.
