A home at the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and Pershing Road in Zanesville was destroyed Thursday night by a fire.
Authorities were called to 838 Woodlawn around 7 p.m. Neighbors say the home was vacant. Zanesville Fire Chief Craig Stemm says they are still investigating and it’s too early to tell if it was a vacant home or if this fire could be related to a string of vacant home fires across the city.
"We’ll have to wait and see what else happens, but I don’t know whether it had power in it or anything yet or not. We haven’t got that far yet to make sure whether there was anybody living there, whether the utilities were shut off yet, so till we determine that and see whether it was actually vacant or not then we’ll go from there," says Stemm.
Stemm says they will also be investigating whether this fire could be connected to a nearby fire Wednesday night at Zane Trace Clean Care Uniforms.
"It doesn’t appear like that yet, but we don’t know we haven’t really got in there to look at that yet," he says.
The home is likely a total loss.
