A day of fun almost turned tragic at The Licking Township Fire Department when paramedics had to spring into action.

The fire department invited the community to take part in their first ever Open House. The day featured free food and plenty of fun activities for the kids. Chief Matthew Wheeler explains his crew typically meet residents in their time of need, and Sunday served as an opportunity to meet on a positive term.

"It’s good to be able to sit down a talk with the people and see what they expect of us," said Wheeler. "And show them what we can give to them."

It was shortly after W.H.I.Z spoke with Chief Wheeler, Fire and E-M-S Officials had the opportunity to show the community exactly what they can do in the case of an emergency….. When a young boy waiting in line to get food, suddenly became over heated and passed out. Medics sprang into action, pulling forward a close-by ambulance and checked the boy’s vital signs.

"With the temperature here everybody did a good job at responding," said Assistant Squad Chief Michael Starling. "Getting here, it’s good."

The boy soon resumed consciousness and appeared to be fine. Officials escorted him into the station where he was able to cool down.
