by George Hiotis on July 27, 2011

An area man who was a teacher in the East Muskingum Local School District appeared in Muskingum County Common Pleas Court Wednesday on a charge of sexual battery and attempted sexual battery. The Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office says 29-year-old Adam Cook of New Concord plead guilty and was classified as a Tier III sex offender. Judge Kelly Cottrill ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set Cook’s bond at $100,000. Cook is being held in the Muskingum County Jail.
East Muskingum Local School District Superintendent Jill Johnson says the Cook was accused of inappropriate interaction with a student. Cook resigned on June 13th.
In a separate case – another teacher from the East Muskingum School District – also resigned in June – but it was for inappropriate verbal interaction. No charges were filed in that case.
