Lace Up For Kids kicked off Monday.

Wendy’s Restaurants, the WHIZ Media Group and Eastside Community Ministries are teaming up to collect new tennis shoes for needy children to go back to school. The program was founded by Wendy’s restaurant nearly 23 years ago.

Owner of Wendys Tim Thompson SAID, "They talked to the schools and children are going back to school with tattered shoes and the schools reached out and Wendy’s responded and started this program. "

The programs has been very successful and last year collected over a thousand pairs of shoes.

"The situation with the economy I expect we are going to be seeing much more and every little bit helps," said East Side Community Ministries Bob Davidson. "I think one of the great things about Muskingum County and the area is the generosity of the community, where there is a need there is always people willing to provide that step up to those in need."

Donations of new tennis shoes can be dropped off at any Zanesville Wendy’s Location and placed in the large collection container now through August.
