Beginning pottery enthusiast throughout the nation will come to Zanesville.

The annual pottery week celebration serves as a reunion for collectors of pottery. The 10 days of festivities will include sales, auctions, trades and events. The Zanesville Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce’s Lori Kappes said, more than 500 people will attend.

"And they fill our hotels and they eat in our restaurants, and they shop in our shops," explained Kappes. "And so it’s great for the local economy. "

The art of pottery is unique to Zanesville due to a special type of clay found in the area. Kappes said, it really is a spectacular event.

"It really doesn’t take place anywhere else that I know of, pottery was a big thing in Zanesville, it still is actually, we were once known as the pottery capital of the world," said Kappes.

Activities will take place throughout Muskingum County and Southeastern Ohio. A Taste of Zanesville will be held on July 13th in the downtown.
