A day on the green was all about fun to remember one local man’s out-look on life.
The 3rd Annual Golf Outing to benefit the Tom Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund teed-off at Fuller’s Fairway in Zanesville Saturday afternoon. Johnson was a Domino’s Franchise Operator in Zanesville for more than 30 years who passed away two years ago. Committee Member Todd Murphy said he was always one to give back.
"Tom was the kind of guy who liked to have fun on the golf course, win or loose, no matter how bad you were shooting," said Murphy.
This year’s scholarship went towards one high school athlete who strongly reflected Johnson’s humor. Murphy said Tri-Valley Valedictorian Tanner Gaber wrote an essay on the influence humor can have on the golf-course.
"One of the things we looked for," said Murphy, "to try to find in a scholarship awardee who could use humor in life to get through the rough times."
Each year the scholarship goes towards a Muskingum County High School Athlete. Saturday’s outing aimed to raise $5,000.
