There may be a solution for local homeowners seeking help with repairs.
The United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development made a visit to the Muskingum County Center for Seniors Thursday morning. The USDA is offering grants and funds through their 504 Home Repair Program. Loan Specialist, Debbie Tewanger, says the program is designed to help low income applicants in rural areas improve their living conditions and assist with needed home repairs.
"I’ve seen people put things on their credit cards at very high interest rates or just go without indefinitely which just makes the home worse as time goes on," said Tewanger.
Tewanger says the grants must be used solely to correct health and safety conditions; however, loans may be made for cosmetic repairs such as modernizing your home.
"These funds are available and we just need to get the word out to the people that qualify that hey the help is there they just need to make the application and we will try to do what we can for them," said Tewanger.
