Troops and Veterans Stock and Save

Active -Duty Military Members, Retirees and their families had the opportunity to stock up and save money on groceries this weekend.

The Wright Patterson Air Force Base Commissary hosted an on-site sale at the Ohio Army National Guard Armory in McConnelsville. The mobilized commissary brings sale-priced items to areas with high military populations that aren’t served by nearby commissaries. Items are purchased by the commissary and then sold at a reduced price. Customer Service Supervisor Darlene Oliver said it’s not about the money but rather the service to those who serve.

"They were promised medical benefits and food benefits," said Oliver. "The commissary is their benefit so we do this for them for what they do for our country."

Items cost about 40% less than retail price. Oliver explains a family of four can save upwards of $4,000. Ex-Military Wife Jean Moore knows this to be true. Her Husband served 20 years in the Air-Force and said during that time she shopped and fed her family of three kids at nearby commissaries. She said the day brought back many memories.

"It was just a great big help to us," said Moore. "And even though this is in a warehouse it’s not on base or anything it’s still got that feel to it, you know."

Customers were required to present a valid Military I.D and encouraged to stock-up on many items.
