ZPD on Death Grant Hickman

Detectives with the Zanesville Police Department continue to investigate the death of an incoming Zanesville High School Freshman.

Detective Sergeant Rick Roush said 14 year-old Grant Hickman was found dead early Saturday morning at a home in the 300 block of Taylor Street in Zanesville. A resident of 364 Taylor Street confirmed the incident did happen at that location, but did not care to comment further.

School Officials said alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the teens death. According to Detectives an autopsy was performed on Hickman Sunday at the Licking County Coroners Office. Toxicology results will not be available for sometime.

Detectives continue to interview several juveniles that were present at the time of the incident, as well as the residence homeowners.

Hickman would have played football for Zanesville High School this fall. School Officials described Hickman as a dedicated individual… Thoughts and condolences from the community can be seen throughout the area.

No arrests have been made. Following the investigation by Zanesville Police Department results will be sent to the Prosecutors Office to determine charges. School Officials said they will refer to the Zanesville City Schools Code of Conduct to determine proper punishment for other athletes involved.
