Caution: School Zone

School are all open and running and it’s a good time to remind drivers to pay attention to the speed limit.

Zanesville City Schools opened up Monday. Zanesville Police Chief Eric Lambes said drivers need to slow down and be cautious.

"After three months of break the drivers aren’t used to driving through school zones," said Lambes. "We need to be a little more cautious and get used to the traffic pattern changes and the pedestrian changes due to school being in."

Lambes said officers will be stepping up their efforts in school zones. Wednesday morning an officer was on Blue Avenue keeping an eye on school zone traffic and officers will also be on the look-out when students get out of class.

"To help educate the traffic," said Lambes. "Hey schools back in, let’s slow down, let’s drive with caution and make sure the kids get to school safely."

The school speed limit is 20 miles-per-hour. Lambes says those speeding will be cited.
