New Muskingum County Commissioner Steve Strauss is officially sworn into office.
Friends and family of the Commissioner gathered with Judge Gormley for the ceremony. Also in attendance was Former Muskingum County Commissioner Dorothy Montgomery – who served 16 years as Commissioner and knows what an honor the position holds.
"I know Steve has worked very, very diligently to seek this position," said Montgomery. "I’m pleased he was able to obtain it."
Strauss was named to the position Wednesday evening and was already hard at work Thursday morning. At Friday’s ceremony Strauss expressed gratitude towards the new position but said he will not take the time to celebrate.
"Maybe this weekend I might take it easy for a day," said Strauss. "But I’m going straight to work."
Strauss will replace former Commissioner Brian Hill for the remainder of the term and will then be up for re-election in Fall 2012.
