The 2-1-1 Call Center is thanking the community for helping elderly and disabled residents cool off this summer.

Manager Audrey Foster said 117 fans were donated by people in Zanesville.  She said the AK Steel corporate office also donated $1000, which paid for an additional 25 fans and 4 air conditioners.

"We did have a lot of calls for fans and air conditioners from folks with medical conditions," said Foster.

Foster said people suffering from cancer, heart conditions and respiratory problems can breathe easier now.  She said this generosity reflects the city of Zanesville.

"I’m very thankful for the corporate gifts and big department stores helping out because that’s the spirit you want to see," said Foster.  "I think this says a lot for a community where people ask their neighbors if they want to purchase a fan and bring it down there to folks who need it."

Foster said anyone who still needs a fan can contact the 2-1-1 Call Center for assistance.
