Eastpointe To Get a Face Lift

With the help of both the city and county, Eastpointe is getting a new face lift.

Zanesville Muskingum County Port Authority Executive Director Mike Jacoby says both parties have agreed to set aside some of their JEDD income tax that they share from the business park to get the repairs done. In doing this, they will each set aside 50,000 dollars a year for 8 years. Jacoby adds Muskingum County Engineer Doug Davis made a big impact on helping with the project.

"Get Eastpointe resurfaced, there will be some drainage repairs, kind of concrete apron at the entrance of the business park that will hold up better with all the trucks that go over that, and we hope to bid that project hopefully in the next 30 days or so," said Jacoby.

In other news, natural gas energy is on the mind of many. From an economic development standpoint, Jacoby says drilling in the area could lead to big business among other things.

"It means we are going to see hopefully more service providers and suppliers locating in the region. We would like to see them located here in Muskingum County. We would like to maximize the amount of investment and jobs as a result of that. We are just trying to figure out what all the opportunities are and I don’t think anybody knows yet, but we are working on it," said Jacoby.

Jacoby says the port authority plans to set up a meeting to talk with the local oil and gas companies to figure out how to maximize the return for Muskingum County as deeper wells start to get drilled here.
