Recent heat advisories have many seeking relief – only to find a shortage of fans.
Last week the South East Ohio 2-1-1 Call Center of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties received more than 40 phone calls of people asking where they could find a box fan as a relief from the heat. Salvation Army Office Assistant Mindy McCloy said both Community Action and the Salvation Army ran out of fans.
"We had one lady who came in and even the ventilation in her apartment was very small, just minimal and she was actually crying when she came in because she was so hot," explained McCloy.
At that time the United Way teamed-up with Salvation Army to ask the community for their help. Call Center Manager Audry Foster said they received a huge response. 105 fans were donated.
"I think this is a great opportunity to see how when we all pull together, there are just communities who have pitched in and said hey we’ll bring 5 fans, we’ll bring 10 fans," described Foster.
Fans are currently being passed out through the Salvation Army. A waiting list is in place.
