The new superintendent of West Muskingum School District is actually a familiar face in Zanesville.
Bill Harbron is replacing former Superintendent Sharon Smith. Harbron served as a middle school principal and superintendent in Wisconsin for 21 years. Before that he was a middle school principal in West Muskingum.
"I’m excited about being here," said Harbron. "I think this district has always been a district where you feel welcome."
Harbron said the district’s funding is an important issue. He plans to organize more listening sessions with community members.
"I think when we look at the funding, we need to understand the community and what the community desires for its children," said Harbron. "We need to know what they are willing to support and what they feel they need to support in the future to provide quality and effective education for their students."
Harbron officially took over on Monday after a 15 day transition period.
