It was a rainy start for the Muskingum County Fair but all the more fitting for their unusual grand-opening.
The Muskingum County Fairgrounds were set to open with its 165th Annual Blue Ribbon Cutting earlier this evening when Fair Board President Darrel Cubbison decided it would be more fitting to honor Soil and Water Retiree Dick Sorg.
"We have a recipe it takes soil, it takes water, and then it takes one more ingredient -kids," said Cubbison. "So we’re going to have some muddy kids here at the Grand-opening."
The rain and mud didn’t stop fair-goers from enjoying the day. Cubbison said Sunday was a great turn out and he expects between 75-80,000 more to take part throughout the week.
"I go by how full the trash barrels are and I’m looking around and they’re full," said Cubbison. "So we’ve had a great crowd today."
Monday’s Fair will feature the Zerbini Family Circus at 2:00pm and 7:00pm. And then on Thursday Rodney Atkins will perform.
