It was straight to business for new Muskingum County Commissioner Steve Strauss.
Appointed the position a mere 24-hours ago Strauss was already becoming acquainted with the new position Thursday afternoon."
There’s a lot of work to be done. I’m learning that already," said Strauss. "There’s already challenges infront of us and I just want to help the team for the next couple months."
Strauss will replace former Commissioner Brian Hill for the remainder of the term and will then be up for re-election in Fall 2012. In the mean time, Strauss plans to move forward with tough decisions surrounding the county budget, the Muskingum County Home and the building department negotiations with the city.
"My feelings are what ever we do, I’d kind of like to do it as soon as possible," said Strauss. "Because employees and the people out there are kind of wondering what’s going on and they deserve an answer."
Strauss will be officially sworn into office Friday at 1 o’clock.
