New Way for Kids to Play and Learn

There’s a new way for kids to play and learn at the library.

The Muskingum County Library System is introducing handheld devices called Playaway Views.  Manager of Customer Service Blair Tom says kids can watch educational videos starring their favorite characters from Dora the Explorer and Sesame Street.

"We think it’s something that children will really relate to, enjoy and then bridge them to the other resources in the library," said Tom.  "It should really help with that early childhood literacy and learning that is so important."

Tom says Playaway Views is a brand new format to public libraries, and like any new technology, kids help the parents as much as parents help the kids.

"I think it’s a great way to entertain children," said Tom.  "They know they’re having fun, and we know they’re learning.  It’s also a great way to use the library as a family."

The starting collection is focused for preschool through second grade, and devices can be rented on a weekly basis.
