Numbers Rise at Christ’s Table

The numbers at Christ’s Table are staggering.

Over the last month an organization that normally feeds 350 people a day has set record numbers in the last week and a half. On Monday, they had their biggest day with over 500 meals served to both those coming to 6th Street building and those homebound.

"We’ve been going into our freezers to pull out what we’ve have," said Keely Warden. "When you’re normally preparing food for 350 people and your preparing for 500 people you have to up your antes. You have to up your recipes. There’s been days where we served beef, chicken and spaghettio’s, but we want to make sure everyone has a hot meal when they leave."

Warden said the economy and the rising costs of groceries are two of the reasons for the increase in numbers among other factors.

"I think it due to the kids going back to school. It’s very costly getting children ready for school," explained Warden. "We had fair in and a lot of times the only time families get their kids out for the summer is the fair week and that’s costly too."

Warden said they are also serving more families and have seen a 13 percent rise in summer numbers for children. If you would like to help the organization contact Christ’s Table.
