The sights, sounds and smells of farm living came to Zanesville Saturday.

The 17th annual Farm-City Day took place at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds. The event highlights the importance of agriculture to the local economy and community. This years theme was poultry.

"There seems to be a lot of interest today in raising backyard poultry," said Muskingum County Extension Educator Mark Mechling.  "We have a couple education seminars on how an individual might have 6 or 8 or 10 hens in their backyard and how they might successfully raise them."

Exhibits mainly related to bird demonstrations and kid activities. Exhibitor and Fair Board President Darrel Cubbison began showing chickens at age seven.

The advantage of course is the freshness of the egg," said Cubbison. "If they are producing birds for meat there is another advantage."

If you are interested in raising backyard poultry Cubbison suggests making an appointment with Poultry Enthusiast Danny Har, (740) 891-2352.
