This weekend some avid runners laced up their running shoes and took to the streets of downtown Zanesville.

Team Godspeed, an organization aimed at promoting health and fitness, held their annual Y-City Mile fundraiser which raises money for organizations across the area like churches, dance or football teams and many others. The route started at the top of Main near Bishop Rosecrans and ended behind Secrest Auditorium.

"We’re kind of used as a catalyst. Ten dollars of the 15 usually goes back and they are running for more bonus money so each team has a chance of getting first place at 600, second place 400, and third place 200 so it’s mainly for a fundraiser just giving back to the community," said Coordinator Christine Williams.

But of course after all that running, some maybe wanted to grab a bite to eat after which is why Team Godspeed coordinated the Y-City Mile to be held right next to Ribfest.

"We join together. We kind of piggy backed on the Ribfest just so we could have a bigger event so that the runners could go and listen to music afterwards and have some ribs and so it’s more or less we’re kind of teaming together. Or maybe vice versa, walk it off and eat some ribs," said Williams.

Team Godspeed holds several running events each year raising about 15,000 dollars but numbers are slightly down this year due to the economy.
