The Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority met on Tuesday to discuss the status of some ongoing projects.
Recently, the Port Authority awarded paving of Eastpointe Drive to the Shelly Company of Thornville. Executive Director Mike Jacoby said the project will begin next Monday.
"We’re just going to put up a metal sign, which costs about $1,000, and it will help direct trucks and employees into the entrance," said Jacoby. "That’s something we wanted to do a long time ago."
The Port Authority also mentioned the upcoming exploration of natural gas in the Marcellus and Utica Shales. Jacoby said oil and gas companies have already been contacted.
"On our main website, we have created a shale page, and we’ve done some magazine advertising," said Jacoby. "We’ve also done some e-mail news blasts, and we’re seeing more web traffic than we’ve ever seen before, which is a good sign."
Another item on the agenda would generate revenue for the Port Authority. Jacoby said timbering is being considered at the Airport Industrial Park, but the project is still in the early planning phase.
