Colorful Mural to Brighten “Y”

It’s national "Make a Difference Day" and residents across Southeast Ohio are doing just that.

The Muskingum Family YMCA volunteers from AmeriCorps and the Community Youth Foundation gathered to paint a mural. The mural will feature the core values of the YMCA.

"I know personally when I go into spaces I like to see more colorful," said AmeriCorps Representative Tiffany Scanlan. "We had worked at the ‘Y’ before and everything is pretty much white so I thought since kids use it a lot it would be good to bring some color into the place."

The goal of the project is to create an interactive and engaging space for students. A portion of the mural is painted with chalk-board paint, making it possible for the kids to express themselves.

"It will also give them an outlet to have another activity versus paper and it’s not wasteful," said Scanlan. "So it’s a little more green because they can draw and erase instead of using up paper."

The murals will also pay tribute to the donors who made the project possible.
