The Muskingum County Commissioners are considering new investment options.
On Thursday, the commissioners met with Steven Conn and Francine Swiger from Huntington Bank. Commissioner Jerry Lavy said the county does not have any bonds maturing in the next few months.
"Currently, we don’t have anything that’s coming up in the near future," said Lavy. "There are some that have an extended time left, but none are due anytime soon."
Lavy said the yields presented by Huntington Bank aren’t great, but that should be expected in today’s market. He said the commissioners are looking into short and long-term investments.
"I think it would be good to have something in both, and that way, if we get in the middle of some up’s and down’s, we can ride them out," said Lavy.
Huntington Bank is putting together a portfolio for the commissioners that will be customized to fit the county’s needs.
