Fighting More Than Fires

Area firefighters are thinking pink and supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Falls Township Fire Department is selling t-shirts to raise money for the Cancer Coalition.  Firefighters will trade in their button-down shirts for custom breast cancer t-shirts, and medics will perform examinations wearing pink gloves.  Captain Andy Keck said the fire department is trying to help local breast cancer patients.

"Through the fire department, we’re out there each day servicing the public," said Keck.  "We want to keep our money local that we raise from the shirts.  The money will help people who have been diagnosed or have gone through treatment for breast cancer."

Keck said the proceeds will pay for transportation, medical bills and research projects.  He said he doesn’t know anyone personally who has been affected by breast cancer, but he’s still a strong supporter of this cause.

"In our department, we’ve had multiple people whose families have been touched by breast cancer," said Keck.  "We think it’s a great way to support our people and the rest of the community."

If you would like to buy a t-shirt, you can stop by the Falls Township Fire Department on Dillon Falls Road on Tuesdays and Thursdays in October from 6 to 7 PM.  The t-shirts cost $12 each.
