Zanesville Police continue their search for a suspect believed to be involved in two gas station robberies.
Police said the first robbery took place at the Starfire on Pershing Road around 4:20a.m. Tuesday morning. The second almost twenty minutes later at the Speedway on Blue Avenue. During the Starfire Robbery the suspect entered the store and told employees he had a weapon, but none was shown. The clerks refused to give him money and the suspect then knocked over items before leaving the store.
"It’s up to the individual whether they comply or not comply. You just never know. There’s no good answer to that question," explained Det. Sgt. Ric Roush. "You don’t want anybody getting hurt in a robbery. There’s nothing in those stores that’s worth getting injured over or losing your life over."
At the Speedway the suspect again told clerks he had a weapon. They gave him and undisclosed amount of cash and he fled the scene. Roush said gas stations can make easy targets for robbers.
"The Speedway Station on Blue Avenue has been a target in the past," said Roush. "We believe that place is targeted because it’s open all night, but then the easy access to that location due to the interstate."
The suspect in these cases is described as a white male wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. The hood on the sweatshirt was pulled up tight around the face. The suspect was also wearing black and white tennis shoes. Anyone with information is asked to call the Zanesville Police Department. (740) 455-0700.
