River View 31 – Rosecrans 21

River View ended a seven-game losing streak by pulling off the victory against Rosecrans.

With the game tied at seven at halftime, the Bishops’ Luke Lloyd came right out of the gate and issued a challenge to the Black Bears.  As predicted by a few coaches on the sideline, Lloyd ran the kick back 87 yards for the go-ahead score.

River View’s Michael Adams also matched that performance.  He returned the ball to the two-yard line and after a Rosecrans penalty, one of 12 for 104 yards, Clay Holsclaw ran it in for a one-yard touchdown to tie the game.

Later in the third, after RV gained a little field position behind a stout defense and short punt, the Black Bears put seven more on the board, behind another run from Holsclaw.  And then, with Rosecrans trailing 21-14, Zach Hill threw an interception to Adams, who ran it back for a touchdown.

That span of 21 unanswered points proved too much for a Bishops comeback.  Rosecrans did find the endzone one more time, but the drive ate up four minutes of clock, allowing River View, once it got the ball back to wind out the final seconds.

Rosecrans falls to 5-4 on the year, and will finish 2-3 in its first year in the East Central Ohio League.  The Bishops take on Fort Frye next week in the regular season finale.  River View (2-7, 1-3), who picks up a win for the first time since week one, will close out the year against Coshocton.
