Maple Avenue Construction Almost Finished

The past few months have been frustrating for drivers who rely on Maple Avenue in Zanesville, but that’s all about to change.

The construction project is almost finished, and crews are expected to clean up next week.  Deputy Director for the Ohio Department of Transportation District 5 Joe Rutherford said the manhole covers will be smoothed out soon.

"There’s actually a lot of stuff that comes up to the surface in the roadway, and we want to make sure that it’s flushed with the final paving project, instead of trying to make the paving product meet that," said Rutherford.

Rutherford said the wet weather was an issue, but the project is still ahead of schedule.  He said he credits cooperative motorists and businesses as well as the contractors for the success of the project.

"The contractors work very hard, long hours out there," said Rutherford.  "We’ve tried to accommodate and not be in front of someone’s driveway at lunchtime if it’s a fast food restaurant.  We haven’t always been successful, but we’ve tried to get in and out as quickly as we could."

Weather permitting, Maple Avenue will be completely back to normal by November 4th.  Rutherford said the road will be much safer this winter.
