The struggle of balancing work and school will be a little bit easier for one local student with the help of a scholarship.

The Bar G Oil and Gas Scholarship was created two years ago by the Glass family to encourage students of Mid-East Technology Center to pursue opportunities at Zane State College. Donor Christina Glass said the idea originated from her father, who also attended Mid-East before going on to pursue a higher education at Zane State, known then as MATC.

"Education right now is something I feel you need to pursue as an individual just to put yourself up there," said Glass., "give yourself that extra boost in the employment opportunities."

This year’s recipient Ted Davis will receive $1,000 from the scholarship. Davis studied criminal justice at Mid-East and will continue the field of study at Zane State. He hopes to one day work with the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Department and eventually be apart of a Special Response Team. Davis said he is attending class for free because of his grades, and although he balances school with three jobs, the extra allowance was needed to help offset the cost of books.

"The books were, once I saw the prices I was a little discouraged but scholarships like this really help me out," emphasized Davis.
