Before eating that huge Thanksgiving meal, runners hit the pavement for the 4th annual Race for Grace 5K.
Grace United Methodist Church held the race as a fundraiser for the food pantry at Eastside Community Ministry. Event Planner, Becky Woods, says each year has been a success with an additional 30-40 runners this year.
"It’s great. It shows that people are willing to support other people in the community and I think it shows we are an active community," said Woods.
Runner Jonathan Gilchrist, who came in 1st place, says races like this one are extremely important.
"There is always a good reason behind almost every race. Most of the monies go towards charities, foundations anything you can possibly imagine and if you pick your races accordingly then you hopefully donate the money to a good cause," said Gilchrist.
Woods says today’s Race for Grace raised around 2,000 dollars.
