Boy Scouts Host Turkey Shoot

Area Boy Scouts got a lesson in gun safety, while working to raise money towards their upcoming outings.

Boy Scout Troop 137 hosted a Turkey Shoot at Briar Rabbit Shooting Sports in Zanesville. Participants took aim at targets with the closest bullets winning turkeys, hams and other holiday type meals. All proceeds raised benefit the scouts.

"Scout camps are a real expense, it’s almost $200 a week now," expressed Assistant Scout Master Sam Paul. "The money they raise, they can use that to pay directly for their scout camp without having to go to their parents or anybody. The more they work the more they earn on it."

Paul said the day isn’t only a great opportunity for the boys to learn the importance of contributing towards their activities, but it’s also a great time to learn gun safety.

"We’re doing a lot of safety out here, they’re learning how to handle a firearm and how to be safe around firearms and just general safety with the guns," said Paul.

If you missed this weekend’s Turkey Shoot, there will be another one next Saturday.

Turkey Shoot: Saturday the 19th 10-3:00 at Briar Rabbit Shooting Sports.
