Toys for Tots is getting ready for a fundraiser that helps children smile during the holiday season.
Muskingum County Coordinator John Norman said the organization is holding an auction to raise money to buy toys. Ohio State memorabilia, artwork from local artists and golf green fees will be among the items up for bid. Toys will be collected at the auction, and Norman said the donations make an enormous impact on the community.
"What makes me feel good is when people say they don’t have the money in this economy, and we give them toys – for toddlers all the way to teenagers," said Norman.
A spaghetti dinner will be served prior to the auction. The Muskingum County Agricultural Society is sponsoring the event, and Vice President Bill Agin said at least 2,000 toys were distributed after a successful auction last year.
"The amount of toys we have is unbelievable, and we get thousands of dollars just given to us," said Agin.
The Toys for Tots dinner and auction will begin at noon on Sunday at the Veterans Complex at the fairgrounds.
