It’s time to start snapping photos for Christmas cards, and Saturday was the perfect opportunity for pet owners.

Wilson’s Garden Center in Newark sponsored a pet portrait session with Santa Claus.  Leslie Emery couldn’t wait to see her dog Buddy sit on Santa’s lap.

"We wanted a special gift for Buddy’s daddy for Christmas, and he’s crazy about this puppy, and we also wanted to donate to Angel Paws," said Emery.

All proceeds will benefit Angel Paws, which is a non-profit organization that provides animal assisted activities and therapy.  Director Patti Shanaberg said last year’s event raised about $2,000.

"We get a lot of people that come year after year," said Shanaberg.  "They look forward to it, they save their flash drives to put all of their Santa pictures on it every year, and it’s really a lot of fun for us too, because we get to see every shape, size and attitude of all kinds of dogs and cats too.  We’ve even had a couple of guinea pigs and ferrets."

People also remembered lost pets by hanging an ornament on a special tree.
