H.S. Football:

Division II Region 7 Semi-Final at Gahana Lincoln:

#3 New Albany 7 #2 Tri-Valley 24

It didn’t live up to the game that it was a year ago but for Tri-Valley fans as long as the result was the same that was all that mattered, and that is exactly what happened. For the first time in school history the Scotties are advancing to the Regional Finals thanks in large part to their running game. Austin Jones accounted for two touchdowns while Nathan Strock also ran one in for the Dawgs in a dominating performance over the Eagles.

Tri-Valley fell behind early for the second week in a row when New Albany’s Zach Tomi threw a touchdown pass to Kevin Collins to put the Eagles in front. The lead was short lived however as on the Scotties first drive, Strock hooked up with Matt Amicone for a 60 yard gain that lead to Austin Jones’s first touchdown of the night. Jones’s punishing run in the second quarter put the Scotties up 14-7 and that was the score heading to the half.

In the second half the Dawgs took their opening posession and ran nearly 10 minutes off the clock before settling for a Amicone 28 yard field goal to make it 17-7. On the ensuing kick off  Amicone placed a pooch kick perfectly which Slade Luburgh recovered giving the Scotties the ball back. Even though they didn’t score the Dawgs limited the Eagles to just three offensive plays in the third quarter for negative four yards.

The fourth quarter was more of the same for the Scotties the ball control offense mustered one more Strock touchdown that capped the scoring and the Dawgs rolled their way into the Regional Finals. Tri-Valley ran for 234 yards with Jones leading the way with 133 yards. Strock chipped in with 97 yards while also firing the football for 126 yards. The Scotties tallied 360 yards total while limiting the Eagles to 150 yards. With the win the Scotties will advance to play Marion-Franklin next week in the Regional Finals, which will match the number one and number two seeds against each other.
