More than 400 Ohio State fans geared up for a good cause on Friday night.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Zanesville hosted a Buckeye pep rally at Eaglesticks Golf Club.  Co-chair Carol Friel said proceeds from live and silent auctions benefit mentoring programs for children.

"Statistically it’s proven that the children who are part of this mentoring program are better citizens and better students," said Friel.  "The outcomes have proven that this is a program that’s definitely needed."

People placed bids on gift baskets, clothing, jewelry and other Buckeye memorabilia.  Friel said organizers try to tweak the event every year.

"We just try to find the most up-to-date memorabilia," said Friel.  "If we have a star who has moved on to the NFL, we try to find some of his stuff and get it signed."

Last year’s pep rally raised about $30,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters.
