Donate Blood During the Holidays

Many of us exchange presents during the holidays, but there’s one gift that’s cherished more than anything wrapped in a box.

People took time out of their New Year’s Eve to donate blood at the South Zanesville United Methodist Church.  Donor Recruitment Representative Rick Dayton said the Red Cross is always in need of blood, and it’s difficult to keep up with the high demand this time of year.

"We try to hold them in places where people would expect activities to be," said Dayton.  "We go to a lot of churches.  We have a big one at Walmart today in South Zanesville, so we try to encourage people when they’re in their regular shopping mode to stop in and donate some blood."

Linda Baker and her four daughters participate in blood drives every six weeks.  She said donating blood is something she can do to help her community.

"We’ve been told through the reading materials that you help at least three people with one donation, so that makes me feel good," said Baker.
