Holiday Blood Shortage

You can give the gift of life this holiday season by donating blood.

A blood drive will be held next Thursday, December 29th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Secrest Auditorium in Zanesville. Red Cross Development Director, Troy Alford, says there is always a demand for blood.

"Five percent of the United States gives blood. 95 percent of the rest of the United States depends on the five percent that give blood," said Alford.

Alford says if you last donated on or before November 3rd, you may be eligible to donate. Those who donate will receive a 10 dollar gift card to Walmart and will enter to win a 1,000 dollar Easton shopping spree and overnight at the Hilton in Easton. Alford says holiday blood shortage is always a concern.

"Someone can slip on ice and need blood. Drunk Driving…traveling to family members…automobile accidents. More accidents seem to happen in the winter time because of the weather," said Alford.
