Parents of Zane Grey Elementary Students will receive a letter from the school.
Zanesville City Schools Student Service Coordinator Kevin Appleman said a rumor has been circulating about a gas leak at the school. He said while there is an odor at the building it is not a safety concern. He said the school has been working with the health department, fire department and gas company to determine the source of the smell.
In a letter sent home on Friday the Superintendent said the health department has determined the odor is coming from outside the building and poses no risk to the students.
The school said they will continue to monitor the situation and child safety remains a top concern.
