Zanesville Police responded to an accident Thursday afternoon when an elderly driver lost control and speed through Rex’s Express Car Wash on the Maysville Pike.

It happened at about 1:30pm 79-year-old Russ Campbell was going through the car wash when he said his vehicle malfunctioned causing him to accelerate into the car in front of him and loose control.

"(I went) way out there across the run there, swung into the lot there tried to get back into there so I could stop, couldn’t get it, I hit the damn telephone pole," recalled Campbell.

Campbell said this is the second time in recent weeks his vehicle has acted-up. The Manager at Rex’s Car Wash Jeff Camp said he’s worked there for nearly 4 years and has never seen anything like it.

"He could have had, you know a throttle issue, but I’m pretty sure his foot was into the throttle," said Camp.

The vehicle Campbell rear-ended was a Buick driven by 75-year-old William Russell of Zanesville. Neither driver was seriously injured.
