The 2-1-1 Call Center’s mission is to connect agencies with those in need.
This winter the organization and community helped close to 70 children have a merry Christmas. These kids either didn’t meet the criteria for other programs or their families were in need.
"A lot of those folks were maybe laid off of work or had illness and were in the hospital," said 211 Call Center Manager Audry Foster. "It was sudden illness and all the sudden now they have a financial need."
In the month of December over 1300 calls came into the center, over three hundred more than this time last year. Foster said she thinks they’re seeing the calls because more people know about their service.
"Our biggest goal is to really help all the agencies. We’re here as kind of that bridge in between that spoke from that need to identify the need to the right agency," said Foster. "We got great people out there serving folks, but a lot of people may not who that person is."
In the event of snow and school closings the 211 call center has a complete list of cancelations and emergency levels.
