Architects are now working to design Genesis’ new Expanded Medical Center.

CEO of Genesis Healthcare System Matthew Perry said they hope to break ground by the end of 2012. The new facility will include a new patient care tower attached to a renovated Bethesda Hospital. Also being built on the campus will be a new outpatient cancer center and medical office building.

"One of the really exciting things about this project is from an architecture stand point," said Perry. "We have the opportunity of really incorporating the very best designs from hospital all over the country into our project right here locally. So what we’re going to end up with is an absolute state of the art hospital."

Perry said not only will the new facility provide area jobs once it’s completed, but it will also provide jobs during the building process.

"It’s about $125-million construction project and statistics show that the community under a project like this, the overall economic impact is about $250-million, so about double during the construction period," emphasized Perry.

The Expanded Medical Center is predicted to be up and running within the year 2015.
