A one-stop shop for weddings and proms is bringing tourist traffic into Zanesville.
The Muskingum County Welcome Center hosted an expo for brides to be and high school seniors planning their big day. More than 70 vendors provided guests with information about their services, from cakes and catering to flowers and photography. Organizer Vicki Maple said it’s the perfect opportunity for a ladies’ day out.
"Some of the little girls that you’ll see coming through will already be dressed up like little princesses, and some of the things that they love to see are the fresh flowers and the jewelry," said Maple. "They love to try on all the sparkles, diamonds and little tiaras. It’s just one of those special princess days where we get to celebrate being women, and often we don’t take the time to do that."
Bride to be Lindsay Clark is tying the knot in May, and she brought her mother along for advice. She said the runway fashion shows and cake contest grabbed her attention.
"I’ve had good luck so far," said Clark. "I’ve tasted a lot of cakes, which is always a big plus. I’m getting ready to watch the fashion show, and I’m sure that will be very nice. They have a lot of really pretty gowns."
About 600 people were expected to walk through the doors, making it one of Zanesville’s biggest events of the year.
