Fashion Show for Formal Dresses

Prom dresses and wedding gowns tend to collect dust in closets after the big day is over, but organizers of an upcoming event are trying to change that.

The "Elegant Attire Extravaganza" is a way for women to buy or sell gently used formal wear and accessories.  Organizer Pamela Applegate said shoppers can save hundreds of dollars by purchasing a dress that was only worn for a few hours.  She said the event will be set up similar to a fashion show with models wearing the gowns for sale.

"Dresses do not sell on hangers," said Applegate.  "These girls are posting them online trying to sell them, and they just do not sell on a hanger.  They need to see someone wearing the dress."

Applegate said hair stylists, make-up consultants, photographers and other vendors will also be in attendance.  She said her 17-year-old daughter was reluctant to wear a used prom dress, but now she tells her friends to give it a try.

"Some girl brought in one and told her to try it on," said Applegate.  "She stood there and told me she didn’t like it.  She said she didn’t want the dress at all, and I told her to just try it on, because she was nice enough to bring it in, and that was one of the dresses we walked out the door with."

The "Elegant Attire Extravaganza" will take place on February 5th from 1 to 4 p.m. at Accel Hall on Bluff Street in Zanesville.  The cost is $1 at the door.  To reserve a table, you can call (740) 297-3374.
