A free throw can decide the outcome of any basketball game, so it’s important for players to polish their skills.
On Sunday Bishop Rosecrans High School hosted a free throw championship for boys and girls ages 10 to 14. The event is sponsored by Knights of Columbus, and member Ted Martin said the friendly competition is a fun way to keep kids active.
"It gets better every year," said Martin. "I hope it grows more. I’d like to see more people from outside of Zanesville."
Martin said the kids who sinked the most shots in their age group received an award for their achievement. 13-year-old Sydney Brandfass made 12 of her 15 free throws.
"It’s really fun, and you get to meet a lot of different people," said Brandfass.
Martin said attendance has declined over time, but more children participated this year compared to last year.
