A fire rips through a home on Vista View Drive, Tuesday morning.
The fire destroyed the home at 2000 Vista View Drive. Falls Township Fire Chief J.D. Johnson said the fire began in the basement and was reported shortly before 9am.
"The fire went undetected for some time," said Chief Johnson. "I don’t know if there was smoke detectors in the house or if they were working or not."
There were people home at the time of the fire. One escaped through a window due to the smoke and fire in the home. The first floor of the home also collapsed causing firefighters to battle the blaze from the outside. Cold weather also hampered the department.
"Here we are the first cold snap of the year and that makes it worse for us because it makes for icy conditions. It makes it tough for everybody," said Johnson.
Chief Johnson said once it’s safe to enter the home they’ll begin to search for a cause of the fire. The family did have insurance and the structure is considered a total loss. The Dresden Fire Department assisted providing an engine and rescue crew.
