Muskingum County residents impacted by the merging of their Sewer and Water billing are now receiving their first statements.
Projects Director Don Madden and Executive Director of the Sewage Department Kenny Beisser met with Commissioner Wednesday afternoon to discuss the process. Madden said customers were notified in December that they would no longer be receiving a sewer and water bill each month, rather the two would merge and a single statement would be sent out every-other month.
"While it’s a larger total, it’s the exact same dollar amount of the 2 month period and it saves on the postage, saves on the billing, it’s more economical and we believe it’s more efficient for the county and the customer as well," said Madden.
One problem being experienced deals with past due amounts. Madden said during the merge a number of sewer payments were not received and a process will now begin to collect those dollars.
"The past due amount will be billed to the owner of the property, either where it is paid directly or moved to a tax lean."
